Welcome spring!
Sunday, April 22nd, 2007It’s like yesterday when I complained how I missed Utrecht in my second week in Montreal… But now I have only 5 months left to enjoy the beauty of this multicultural city. I was lucky to arrive in autumn, to witness the change of the color of the famous maple trees. The view was just perfect that I wanted to freeze the time so I can indulge my eyes with the yellow-brown-red color of the falling leaves…
Then, the winter comes late in January. My supervisor told me that there’s an old saying that new arrivals love Montreal because it’s so beautifull in winter, as Canada is well known as the great white on the north. But after sometime they become bored and can’t wait for the spring to come. I fully agree with this saying because I hate so much the rituals that I have to do every time I have to walkout the door, it takes so much time! One night snow storm is enough to cover the city with thick snow that people have to dig their ‘treasures’ under a big pile of snow.
On my seventh month, finally the spring is coming! People is coming out from their houses with colorful clothes; you see crowd every where in public places. I am enjoying the city with shirt, jeans, and my sport shoes and leave my winter attributes at home. One thing I love most about the city is the mixture of its inhabitants. On the bus or subway, you will not recognize in which country you are staying, there’s no dominancy! You see fair, yellow, dark skin everywhere mingle with one another peacefully.
I can’t wait for the summer to come, when the city celebrates the season with all kind of festivals. This time I can say that j’aime Montreal!
