Second thoughts…
Saturday, October 28th, 2006After complaining phase, I am now starting enjoying my new life… I finally settled in my new apartment, which is 7 minutes walking distance from my office. In general it’s not bad at all, although I miss the Dutch dairy products, cookies, and chocholate alot! I defenitely will ask my friend who is coming over next month to bring me some full bags of sweets
I should thank Mbak Hesti for introducing me to the milist of the Indonesian community here. The Indonesian people here are very kind and friendly. Maybe because we’re a small community, compare to the Netherlands where you can meet Indonesian all over the place, so the nation bound is much stronger. My unfurnished apartment turned out to be a furnished one within 1 week, with helps from Endro and Aris family. It’s just amazing how the relation grew from totally stranger to a close friendship bound within such a short period, Alhamdulillah… Above is the picture of "Syiar Montreal" group during the Ied celebration, a big happy family, isn’t it?
In the office, things are getting much better. The earnest atmosphere has disappered and I have more live conversations with my officemates. I also have something to tell about my so very wellknown supervisor, Denyse Gautrin, whom I knew before from her papers. She’s an amazingly down to earth person. Very smart, dedicated, and active at her age, reminds me of my head of department backhome in Jakarta. Amazing people!
However, there’s still one thing that scare me of: the winter. It’s not coming yet, and I hope it won’t be as bad as what the people told me. Let’s see what the rest of the year will bring me :-)
